Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 August 2026
Solar Quote Finder Australia ("we", "us") operates an independent solar and battery quote comparison service for Australian households and businesses. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
1. What we collect
When you complete an enquiry form, we collect the information you give us, which typically includes:
- Contact details — your name, phone number and email address, and for business enquiries your business name and role.
- Property or site details — the address, suburb, state and postcode of the property to be quoted, the property or site type, ownership or lease status, approximate electricity spend, the type of system you're interested in and your intended timeframe.
- Documents you choose to upload — for example a photo or PDF of an electricity bill, or a photo of a switchboard or meter panel. These uploads are optional.
- Technical and marketing information — your IP address, device type, browser, operating system, screen size, language and time zone, the page you arrived on, the website or advertisement that referred you, and campaign identifiers contained in the link you clicked (for example UTM parameters and advertising click identifiers).
- Interaction information — which form you completed, how long it took, which steps you completed, and whether you returned to finish it later.
Information we do not ask for
We do not ask for and do not want your bank account details, credit card numbers, tax file number, passwords, government identity documents, or health information. Please don't send these to us. If a document you upload happens to contain information beyond what we need, we will only use what is relevant to preparing your quotes.
2. Why we collect it
- To identify accredited installers who service your postcode and are capable of the work you've asked about, and to pass your enquiry to them so they can prepare quotes.
- To contact you about your enquiry, including confirming details or following up on quotes.
- To verify that enquiries are genuine and to detect fraudulent, duplicate, automated or malicious submissions. This includes comparing the approximate location indicated by your IP address against the address you provided, and checking submissions against records of competing businesses in the solar, electrical, construction-certification and related industries.
- To measure which advertisements and pages generate genuine enquiries so we can improve them and stop wasting money on ones that don't.
- To meet our legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
3. Who we share it with
Accredited installers. The core purpose of this service is to pass your enquiry to installers so they can quote you. We disclose your contact details, the site details and any documents you uploaded to a limited number of installers matched to your location and requirements. Once your details are with an installer, that installer handles them under its own privacy policy, and you deal with them directly.
Service providers. We use third-party providers to host the website and database, store uploaded files, send email, and measure advertising performance. These providers process information on our behalf and are only permitted to use it for that purpose. Some are located outside Australia, which means your information may be stored or processed overseas; where that occurs we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable protections apply.
Advertising platforms. Where we run advertising, platforms such as Meta and Google may set cookies or receive event information indicating that a conversion occurred. Where we send conversion information, it is limited to what is necessary and, where the platform supports it, hashed.
We do not sell your personal information to data brokers or list resellers. We are not in the business of selling contact lists.
4. Consent and how to opt out
By submitting an enquiry you consent to us disclosing your details to matched installers for the purpose of preparing quotes, and to us or those installers contacting you about that enquiry by phone, SMS or email. That consent lasts until you withdraw it.
To withdraw consent, stop all contact from us, or request that we delete your information, email privacy@solarquotefinder.au. We will action it promptly and confirm when it's done. Installers you were already matched with hold their own copy of your details, and we will tell you who they were so you can contact them too if you wish.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use browser storage to remember your progress through a form so you can pick it up where you left off, and to remember which advertisement or link brought you here so we can attribute your enquiry correctly. Where advertising or analytics tags are active, they may set their own cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings; the enquiry form will still work, but it won't remember your progress.
6. Security and retention
Information is stored in access-controlled systems and transmitted over encrypted connections. Uploaded documents are stored in a private bucket that is not publicly listable or browsable, and access is restricted to us and the installers preparing your quotes.
We keep enquiry records for as long as needed for the purposes above and to meet legal and record-keeping obligations, then delete or de-identify them. No system is perfectly secure; if a data breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
7. Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it's wrong. Email privacy@solarquotefinder.au. We may need to verify your identity first. We'll respond within a reasonable period, and if we refuse a request we'll tell you why in writing.
8. Complaints
If you think we've mishandled your personal information, email privacy@solarquotefinder.au and we'll investigate and respond in writing. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
9. Children
This service is intended for adults making decisions about property they own or operate. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold about you, we'll take reasonable steps to tell you.
